ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE PROGRAM

Program “Environmental protection and climate change“ aims to improve the status of the environment and reduce the effect of pollution, contributing to the achievement of the general objectives of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area.

The priority areas on which the program focuses are marine waters, climate, circular economy and resource management.

Program “Environmental protection and climate change“ is aimed at municipalities, educational and scientific organizations, the private and non-governmental sector, and the general public.

Expected results are related to guaranteed sustainability in the implementation of projects, development of favorable collaborations with partners from the donor countries and long-term future benefits for the environment.

The total budget of the program is EUR 15.29 million, of which EUR 2.29 million is national funding.

THE PROJECT SELECTION PROCEDURE IMPLEMENTATION OF DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS IN THE FIELD OF WASTE MANAGEMENT UNDER PRIORITY AXIS 2 WASTE OF THE OPERATIONAL PROGRAM ENVIRONMENT 2014 - 2020

The procedure  for granting grant-in-aid through the selection of projects BG16M1ОР002-2.009 “Implementation of demonstration projects in the field of waste management" on priority axis 2 “Waste" of OPE 2014-2020 was announced by the managing body of the Operational Program "Environment" (OPES) 2014 2020

The purpose of the procedure is to support the achievement of the goals set out in Art. 31, para. 1 of the Waste Management Act (WMA), regarding household waste.

The activities that will be financed under the procedure and through which the set goals will be achieved should be related to the treatment of only household waste generated on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and should refer to: prevention of their formation and/or for preparation for reuse, and/or for their recycling.

Increasing awareness and public self-awareness to comply with the household waste management hierarchy is key in the context of waste prevention initiatives and to increase citizen participation in separate collection.

Expected results of the procedure are, through the financed projects, to contribute to the transition to a circular economy in Bulgaria and to support the achievement of recycling 50% of household waste by 2020. It is also expected to contribute to the formation of a zero-waste society, increasing of public awareness to respect the waste management hierarchy and to reduce the amount of landfilled household waste.

Eligible beneficiaries under the procedure are:

  • municipalities;
  • legal entities with a business purpose;
  • non-profit legal entities.

The total amount of grants for all approved project proposals is up to BGN 9,779,150 (nine million seven hundred and seventy-nine thousand and one hundred and fifty) BGN. The maximum amount of grants that can be granted for the realization of one project proposal is up to BGN 391,166 (the BGN equivalent of EUR 200,000).
